About the club
Waiheke Surf Club started in March 2019 with the objective of creating a club that builds friendships, nurtures community spirit, and serves the people of Waiheke. Our purpose is to build water confidence amongst our tamariki and to create water safety learning pathways for children and adults on Waiheke. We also aim to provide a pathway for our Waiheke Island tamariki to train toward their Surf Lifeguard Award and to go on to serve the NZ community as qualified surf lifeguards.
Thanks Ruby!
We have former Waiheke Primary School student Ruby Wilson to thank for the creation of Waiheke Surf Club. Ruby’s dream was to have a safe place for Waiheke’s young people to become more confident in and on the water; a club for learning about safety, team sports, first aid and rescue drills. In 2019, Ruby enlisted help from her friends, teachers, parents and Bethells Beach Surf Life Saving Patrol - and Waiheke Surf Club became a reality!
Who we are
The Waiheke Surf Club has a diverse membership including over 150 junior members, volunteer coaches and parent helpers. Our members come from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures with two common links - they share a passion for surf sports, and enjoy belonging to a community-focused club. Members all live on Waiheke Island and the club is entirely run by volunteers.
